On Friday – 15.03.2019, the 9th Jerusalem “Winner” Marathon took place, with 40,000 runners from 80 different countries descending on to the breath-taking track through Jerusalem. They passed the Knesset, along the Old City’s walls, down to the Sultan’s Pool, through Mishkenot Sha’ananim and the German Colony, taking in the view from the Armon HaNatziv Broadwalk, running Mount Scopus and other amazing sites and finishing at Sacher Park.

Mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Lion said: The Jerusalem “Winner” Marathon is an international event that attracts to it not only Israeli athletes and families, but brings in many different participants from abroad. Thousands of tourists come to Jerusalem to experience a challenging sporting event and world renown tourist destination.” This year, Jerusalem broke its own record with the amount of total and foreign participants taking part in the sporting event and bringing in 20 million Shekels to the city’s economy.”

Jerusalem Marathon Winners

Winning the marathon with an amazing time of 02:18:47, Ronald Kimeli Kurgat, age 33 from Kenya;

Finishing in second place also from Kenya, Kipkogey Shadrack, 28, with a time of 2:19:07.

In third place Jonathan Chesoo Kipchirchir, 31, form Kenya with a time of 02:22:07.

For the women, Nancy Kimaiyo Chepngetich, 35, from Kenya with a time of 02:44:50 finished in first.

Coming in second, Too Mercy Jelimo, 37, from Kenya finishing with a time of 02:54:00.

Closing out third place another Kenyan, Naomi Jepngetich, 39, 02:58:00.

First place will take home a total of $3,750, second place $2,500 and third place winning $1,250.

Jerusalem “Winner” Marathon included 6 heats:

Full marathon (42.195km), half marathon (21.1km), 10km, 5km, family race (1.7km) and a special communal run of 800m with around 6,000 participants who ran for various social causes.
