The goal of the program is to increase the number of matriculation examinees at the highest level in English (4 and 5 units). Currently, there is a shortage of quality English teachers in Israel’s education system and at all stages of education: elementary, middle and high school. As part of the national program, the Ministry of Education is preparing to expand the recruitment of English language proficiency teachers. Various academics – both those who came from English-speaking countries and Israelis who are fluent in English, are eligible.

Candidates for the English language training programs must meet all of the following conditions:

  1. Immigrated from an English speaking country or Israelis who are fluent in spoken and written English.
  2. With at least a bachelor’s degree from an institution of higher education in an English-speaking country, accredited by the Ministry of Education, or at least a first academic degree from an institution of higher education in Israel recognized by the Council for Higher Education in Israel.
  3. The score average of the degree is at least 75.
  4. Compliance with the admissions process that will be conducted by the College, which includes a test of compliance with teaching methods, and a test of fluency in spoken and written English.

Upon completion of all obligations in the training program, the institution shall issue a teaching certificate, signed by the Ministry of Education, in accordance with the course which they studied. The program graduates, who are not actual teachers, will be required to do an internship in their first year of employment in the education system.

The program is funded entirely by the Ministry of Education.
