Jewish immigration to Israel increased by 30% in 2021 from the previous year, breaking records for immigration, and the highest migration from the United States since 1973.
27,057 Jewish immigrants became Israeli citizens in 2021, compared to 21,120 in 2020 and 35651 in 2019 — the last year of immigration before the coronavirus pandemic. This year, there is a surge in immigration from the Ukraine and Russia.
20 years of immigration to Israel by country
- In 2021 Russia lead the way with the most number of immigrants to Israel (7,500), France, Ukraine and Ethiopia followed suit and 4,000 Americans made Aliyah with Nefesh B’Nefesh.
- Surprisingly, 2017 was the lowest year for Ethiopian Aliyah to Israel when only 37 people made Aliyah from that country.
- The peak for French Aliyah to Israel was in 2015 when 6,628 people moved to Israel.
- In 2009, 3,260 immigrants from the USA/Canada made Israel their new home.
- South Africa‘s lowest year was 2004 when only 82 South Africans came to live in Israel
- Argentina’s immigration peaked in 2002 when 5,931 immigrated to Israel.
- 1990 saw the largest wave of immigrants from the FSU with 185,277 arriving in Israel.
