The Tel Aviv Jerusalem high-speed train.

Tel Aviv Jerusalem Train

At HaHaganah Train Station in Tel Aviv

Soon, Israel Railway's new Tel Aviv Jerusalem train will be operational.  Although a precise date has not yet been finalized final test runs are now in place. It has been estimated that the line will open to passengers by the end of 2019.  The new high-speed train will connect Tel Aviv’s Hahagana Station to Jerusalem’s Yitzhak Navon Station.

The line was expected to be fully operational by 2008 but technical problems, malfunctions and shutdowns caused an unbelievable 11 year delay.

The train is expected to reach a speed of 160km/hour which means that travel time between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem will be just under 30 minutes.

Estimated final cost - 7 billion shekels - more than double the original estimation.

In the meantime, electrification on the line will continue thereby connecting all of Tel Aviv's four stations and finally end at Herzliyah.
